When you think about current Tennessee Vols with early-round NFL draft potential, the first names that come to mind are probably offensive linemen Trey Smith and Cade Mays.
But those aren’t the only players on the roster that could hear their names called early in the NFL draft one day.
In fact, there’s one player that likely isn’t even on your radar that a 247Sports analyst believes could be an early-round draft pick in the not-so-distant future.
Linebacker Jeremy Banks, who was recently reinstated to the team after an arrest last fall, is expected to be a key part of Tennessee’s linebacker rotation in 2020.
And 247Sports analysts Barton Simmons thinks he could eventually turn that opportunity into an NFL career.
also think that an under-the-radar move was Tennessee bringing dismissed athlete Jeremy Banks back onto the roster to play linebacker. I always had some skepticism about him as an elite running back but his athleticism is unreal. Now that he’s pointed towards linebacker, don’t be surprised if we look up in a couple of years and he’s an early-round NFL prospect.”
Banks started his career at Tennessee as a running back but he had some ball security issues. His tough running style, however, showed that he had promise as a linebacker. Banks filled in at linebacker some to help with depth issues on the defensive side of the ball, but he remained steadfast in his desire to play running back.
Now that Banks is back on the team, he’s made the permanent move to linebacker. And it’s a move that will not only help Tennessee tremendously, it should also help Banks extend his football career.
